Many different names are locally applied to it: Zion lily, moon lily, jimson weed, etc. This is one of the few plants in Zion to flower during the hot summer months until the early frosts of September and October. Along with its beauty comes a caution. The plant is poisonous to eat, especially the seeds. It was used used by several Indian tribes to induce stupor and dreams as a part of a religious ritual. There must be something in the human brain which urges it to transcend itself by any means. SACRED DATURA, Datura meteloides.

Mike, Wonderful pictures and great information thanks for sharing.
Where are you these days? We are still in Vermont but should be leaving next week traveling to Florida to help the F.&W.S. doing the Monarch Butterfly migration, then on to far south Texas.
Best to both you and Mac.
