This is the view off the front of our motor home. (see the video below) This building changes color every few seconds. We’re still at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas for another day. Today, the new hitch receiver arrives and will be installed at Las Vegas RV. Why a new receiver hitch? Seems we tangled with the “Devil Railroad Crossing” in Vidal, AZ on Hwy 95. Just moments after this picture was taken
we came to a RR crossing and proceeded to cross it at around 20 miles per hour. It was as if the rails were bare with no asphalt or cement between them. The whole motor home banged its way over the crossing and I could see the Jeep jump in back up monitor. I pulled over to inspect for possible damage. It clearly looked like the hitch was aiming lower than normal. This is bad, because it meant the hitch was compromised, it can’t be replaced. I headed for Las Vegas RV and they sent for a new receiver hitch to be shipped from California. It would take up to 5 days to arrive. Total cost was 5 days in Vegas and $955.00 for the receiver hitch replacement. Picture of new hitch coming tomorrow. Click this image for a full size look at the problem.
On top of the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas is an amusement park. This is what it looks like from a local neighborhood. There are people in that thing who’ve paid money to be tossed over the side of the building.
With time to spend in Las Vegas we did some fun stuff like dining out, sight seeing, dog park visiting and playing video poker (didn’t win anything – folks told me Vegas, because of the local economy reset the machines to pay the “house” instead of the players. We also accomplished some house keeping along with testing and refilling our onboard air tank (in case of a flat tire) as well as grocery and shopping for clothes.
Here’s Blue running around the nearby Dog Park. This place is fantastic because it allows the little dogs their own play area without having to compete with the larger dogs. If you watch the video you’ll see that Blue enjoys “talking”.
We leave for Zion National Park in the morning amid rain and snow showers. This will be our first spring in Zion.
