Grooming Mac

son_of_fire Mackay, Son of Fire, Legacy’s Mackay, son of Buckshot and Katie is my sidekick on this journey. “Mac” is a Miniature Schnauzer with a big personality. He’s been with me for the last 11 years and has been well-groomed during the entire time except during the last year. Sadly, he now has just me as his groomer and I’m a mediocre barber at best. Luckily I was given a complete grooming kit and table by my wonderful friends, Mack and Patty Ledgerwood of Legacy Miniature Schnauzers in Pasco, Washington. These tools and my Video Ipod along with a copy of Patty’s “Grooming your Miniature Schnauzer” DVD on it “walks” me through the entire grooming process. I can’t recommend this Grooming DVD enough. It has saved Mac from my countless grooming errors and is geared toward owners of “pet” Miniature Schnauzers not “show” pups. If you’re interested you can watch the video preview at Legacy Miniature Schnauzers web site or click on the image below for a direct link to the preview.

grooming_macWhile on the road, Mac gets groomed a lot more often than when I paid a professional groomer to do it. This keeps him happy. Mac is funny like that. My grooming kit contains the minimum essentials including an electric clipper with several lengths of blades, long scissors, forceps (for ear hair removal),nail clipper, brush and comb, ear powder and shampoo. One other essential is an apron since Schnauzer hair blowing in the wind will quickly coat your clothing. BTW, all this and more is listed in the video so if you’re serious about saving money and keeping your puppy looking good buy the video because you’ll need to know the secrets of using the equipment properly. I know I’m sounding like an advertisement but believe me grooming is expensive and when you’re on the road it’s very hard to find a groomer who knows how to do it correctly. There is a tremendous satisfaction is doing your own grooming too aside from the fact I always finish a groom with a glass of wine.

One of the difficulties of grooming Mac on the road is other friendly puppies who insist that we stop everything and play. This video was taken during a grooming session in Hurricane, Utah.
