This is the Pa’rus Trail in Zion. It runs a little over a mile in the canyon and hundreds of folks, bikers and dogs walk, jog and ride it every day. In the picture above you can see Blue way out front on his flexi-lead and Zoey, the Jack Russell on hers. Although, I’ve heard “there be snakes” in Zion, I never thought much of it until now. Along this trail just around the corner ahead we found a rattlesnake.
Bothering no one and sprawled beside the trail this incredible snake must have measured five feet at least. I was hoping I’d see a rattler in Zion but never expected it to be so close to the trail and campgrounds. Blue will be walking close and on the shorter leash from now on. I’ve highlighted the image of the snake so it’s easier to see otherwise it blends so well you may not even notice it.
