Simpson Reef

In this little video you’ll see Simpson Reef, a mother Harbor Seal meeting her new born pup nose to nose and coaxing him to nurse as the waves wash over them, powerful waves breaking on the outer reef, eagles relaxing in a tree next to the viewing area and fishing trollers returning, at the end of the day, to the Port of Charleston. You’ll also see some of the SEA Volunteers on the overlook viewing deck. Another glorious day at the cool Oregon Coast.

The view north from Simpson Reef
California Sealions (brown), Harbor Seals (white/grey) and Stellar Sealions (blonde).

A pair of Bald Eagles at Simpson Reef. These eagles are most likely waiting for the afterbirths of the pupping Harbor Seals.

As volunteers with Shoreline Education for Awareness we spend two days a week at Simpson Reef. The goal of SEA Volunteers is to help casual visitors appreciate and understand what they have and see a the Reef overlook.  It’s one of the few places along the coastline where four different Marine Mammals spend time together during the spring and summer months.
