Today Joyce and I joined forces with the Stanislaus Country Sheriff’s Department in an effort to clean up the homeless encampments along the Stanislaus River in Riverbank, CA. We worked with a great group of work release inmates from the County Jail and managed to clear a quarter mile stretch of Army Corps land with five encampments.
The river at this place is as beautiful as a painting but suffers from people who have no problem throwing debris along the shoreline. Old bikes, tires, wine and beer bottles, piles of lottery scratch off tickets, sleeping bags, blankets, bags of clothing, books and various electronics were among the mess we shoveled out of the area.
